Vitamin C is one of the best-studied ingredients for dull skin and dark spots. It's an antioxidant that helps defend against sun and pollution damage, and it slows the production of excess pigment. The catch: pure vitamin C is unstable, and Pakistan's heat and humidity make it oxidise faster. Choosing the right formula — and storing it properly — matters more here than almost anywhere.

Which vitamin C serum is best for oily skin in Pakistan?

If you have oily or combination skin and have used actives before, COSRX The Vitamin C 23 is the strongest option for the money. Its watery texture sinks in quickly, which helps in humid cities like Karachi. At 23% it can tingle, so start every other morning.

If you're new to vitamin C, start with CeraVe Skin Renewing Vitamin C Serum instead. 10% is enough to see results, and it's far less likely to irritate.

What percentage of vitamin C should you use?

For L-ascorbic acid — the form with the most research behind it — 10–20% is the range that works. Below about 8% the effect is limited; above 20% irritation goes up without much extra benefit.

Derivatives such as ascorbyl glucoside, sodium ascorbyl phosphate and ethyl ascorbic acid are gentler and more stable, but they have less evidence and convert to active vitamin C in the skin less efficiently. They're a good choice if pure vitamin C always stings.

Prices are the lowest online prices we found at Pakistani retailers in November 2026 (via Qeemat.com.pk and Derma.pk). They change often — check the store before you buy.

Which form of vitamin C is the most stable in hot weather?

Stability depends as much on packaging as on the ingredient:

  • Choose opaque or amber bottles, ideally with a pump or a small dropper opening.
  • Avoid big jars or clear bottles left on a sunny bathroom shelf.
  • Keep it in a cool cupboard — not in a car or next to a window. In peak summer, some people keep it in the fridge.
  • Buy the smallest size you'll use up in two to three months.

How do you use vitamin C serum in your routine?

  1. Cleanse in the morning.
  2. Apply 3–4 drops to dry skin and let it absorb for a minute.
  3. Follow with moisturiser if your skin needs it.
  4. Finish with a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher.

Vitamin C and sunscreen work together: the serum mops up free radicals that get past your sunscreen, and sunscreen prevents the pigmentation vitamin C is trying to fade.

Who should be careful with vitamin C?

If you have very sensitive skin, rosacea or an eczema-prone barrier, high-strength L-ascorbic acid may sting or cause redness. Patch-test on the side of your neck for a few days first, or choose a derivative-based serum.

How we chose these serums

We compared serums that are reliably available from Pakistani pharmacies and beauty retailers, looking at the form and strength of vitamin C, the supporting ingredients, the packaging and the price. This guide is research-based rather than a hands-on test. Read more in our editorial policy.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use vitamin C serum in Pakistan's summer?

Yes — it's arguably most useful then, because vitamin C helps protect against UV-related damage. Use a light layer in the morning before sunscreen, and store the bottle somewhere cool and dark so it doesn't oxidise.

How do I know if my vitamin C serum has gone off?

L-ascorbic acid serums darken as they oxidise. A pale yellow tint is normal; dark orange or brown means it has lost much of its effect and can stain skin. Replace it.

Can I use vitamin C with niacinamide?

Yes. The old advice to keep them apart came from early studies that don't reflect modern formulas. If the combination makes your skin flush, use vitamin C in the morning and niacinamide at night.

How long does vitamin C take to show results?

Most people notice brighter, more even skin after 4 to 8 weeks of daily use — provided they also wear sunscreen every day.

Is a higher percentage of vitamin C better?

Not necessarily. Research supports roughly 10–20% L-ascorbic acid; above that, irritation rises faster than results. Start lower if your skin is sensitive.
