Dark circles (aankhon ke halke) are one of the most common skin concerns in Pakistan, and one of the most over-marketed. An eye cream can help, but only if it matches the type of dark circles you have.

What type of dark circles do you have?

  • Brown (pigmented): extra melanin under the eyes. The most common type on South Asian skin, often genetic and made worse by sun, rubbing and allergies.
  • Blue or purple (vascular): thin skin lets the blood vessels show through. Often worse when you're tired.
  • Grey shadows (structural): hollows under the eyes that catch shadow. Often genetic, and more visible with age.

Quick test: gently stretch the skin under your eye. If the colour stays, it's mostly pigment. If it fades or changes, it's mostly blood vessels or shadow. Many people have a mix.

For brown, pigmented circles, we'd start with Elluvi Vitamin C Serum (Rs 1,299). Its 10% ethyl ascorbic acid is a stable, gentler form of vitamin C that brightens pigment and protects against sun damage. Pat a small drop along the under-eye bone each morning, under sunblock, keeping it off the eyelids and lash line. Patch-test first, because the eye area is sensitive. Niacinamide works too: Elluvi Hydra Glow Serum (Rs 1,149) can be used the same way at night.

For puffiness and blue-purple circles, The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG (about Rs 4,088) temporarily tightens and de-puffs.

For dry, thin under-eye skin and fine lines, CeraVe Skin Renewing Eye Cream (about Rs 6,800) is gentle and hydrating.

How do you apply eye cream?

  1. Use a rice-grain amount for both eyes.
  2. Pat it on with your ring finger along the under-eye bone. Don't rub.
  3. Stay a few millimetres away from the lash line; products travel as you blink.
  4. In the morning, follow with a gentle sunblock.

What else helps dark circles?

  • Sunblock every day, including under the eyes. Sun darkens pigmented circles.
  • Stop rubbing your eyes. Rubbing darkens pigment over time. If your eyes itch, treat the allergy.
  • Cold compresses in the morning for puffiness.
  • Sleep and less salt late at night to reduce morning puffiness.

When should you see a dermatologist?

If your circles are very dark, getting worse, or are mostly hollows, a dermatologist can offer prescription creams, peels, lasers or fillers. Only have injections or lasers from a qualified doctor.

Frequently asked questions

Do eye creams really remove dark circles?

They can lighten pigmented dark circles over 8 to 12 weeks and reduce puffiness temporarily. They can't fill hollows or change genetic shadows; those need in-clinic treatment.

Can I use my face serum under my eyes?

Gentle serums like niacinamide, hyaluronic acid or a stable vitamin C, yes, patted along the under-eye bone and away from the lash line. Avoid strong retinoids and acids near the eyes until your skin is used to them.

Does sleep fix dark circles?

Better sleep reduces puffiness and makes eyes look less tired, but it won't remove pigmentation or hollows.

Should I put sunblock under my eyes?

Yes. Sun exposure darkens pigmented circles. Use a gentle, fragrance-free sunblock or a mineral SPF stick, keeping it away from the lash line.

Aankhon ke halke kaise khatam karein?

For brown dark circles (aankhon ke halke), use a vitamin C or niacinamide serum on the under-eye bone, wear sunblock every morning, sleep well and stop rubbing your eyes. Expect results in 8 to 12 weeks.
