Salicylic acid is one of the most searched skincare ingredients in Pakistan, and for good reason. It's a beta hydroxy acid (BHA) that dissolves in oil, so it can work inside pores rather than just on the surface. That makes it the most useful face wash ingredient for blackheads, whiteheads, oily T-zones and mild breakouts (daane).

What does salicylic acid do in a face wash?

  • Clears pores: dissolves the oil and dead skin that plug pores and form blackheads.
  • Calms breakouts: has a mild anti-inflammatory effect on red spots.
  • Controls shine: leaves oily skin feeling cleaner for longer.

A face wash only stays on your skin for a minute, so it works best for prevention and mild acne. For stubborn acne, pair it with a leave-on treatment.

Triac is one of Pakistan's most searched face washes, and it's a sensible budget pick: salicylic acid plus tea tree oil and niacinamide, sold in pharmacies for around Rs 850. If you want something gentler, COSRX Salicylic Acid Daily Gentle Cleanser (about Rs 4,500) has a low-pH gel formula that suits combination and sensitive skin better.

Lahore brand Elluvi has announced a 2% Salicylic Acid Acne Facewash. It hadn't launched when we checked on 3 November 2026; we'll add it here once it's available. In the meantime, Elluvi's Brightening Face Wash (Rs 849) is a good alternative if your main concern is dullness and dark marks rather than blackheads: it uses glycolic acid, which works on the surface of the skin, plus niacinamide.

Salicylic acid or mandelic acid?

Both are popular in Pakistan. Salicylic acid is better for blackheads and oily skin because it gets into pores. Mandelic acid, used in Jenpharm Mandel AC Face Wash (about Rs 999), has larger molecules that work more slowly, so it's gentler and a better fit for sensitive skin and dark marks.

Salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide?

  • Salicylic acid: blackheads, whiteheads, oily skin and small bumps.
  • Benzoyl peroxide: red, inflamed, painful pimples, because it kills acne bacteria.

If most of your acne is red and inflamed, a benzoyl peroxide wash will do more. Don't use both twice a day unless a dermatologist suggests it. Read more in our guide to face washes for acne-prone skin.

How do you use a salicylic acid face wash?

  1. Wet your face with lukewarm water.
  2. Massage for 30–60 seconds, focusing on your nose, chin and forehead. The acid needs contact time to work.
  3. Rinse well and pat dry.
  4. Moisturise. Salicylic acid can dry skin; a light gel moisturiser keeps it balanced.
  5. Sunblock every morning. Exfoliated skin is more sensitive to the sun.

Give it 4 to 6 weeks to see fewer blackheads. Some people see a few extra small breakouts in the first two weeks as pores clear.

Who should avoid salicylic acid?

Skip it or check with a doctor if you're allergic to aspirin, have very dry or eczema-prone skin, or are pregnant and want to avoid it (rinse-off washes are generally considered low-risk, but ask your doctor). Stop if you get burning, swelling or rash.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use salicylic acid face wash every day?

Yes, most people with oily skin can use it once or twice a day. If your skin feels tight or starts peeling, use it once a day and a gentle cleanser the other time.

What percentage of salicylic acid is best in a face wash?

0.5% to 2%. Because a face wash is rinsed off quickly, 2% is fine for most oily skin; sensitive skin may prefer 0.5% to 1%.

Can I use salicylic acid face wash with retinol or niacinamide?

Niacinamide is fine. With retinol or adapalene, use the salicylic wash in the morning only, or on non-retinol nights, to avoid irritation.

Is salicylic acid face wash good for dry skin?

Not usually. It's designed to remove oil. If you have dry skin with occasional blackheads, use it two or three times a week at most.

Blackheads ke liye kaun sa face wash acha hai?

For blackheads, a salicylic acid face wash works best because it cleans oil inside the pores. Use it daily for 4 to 6 weeks, and don't squeeze blackheads, which can leave marks.
